First and third King of the Middle Kingdom.

Cariadoc, first Knight of the Middle Kingdom, was first introduced to the SCA through Science Fiction fandom, and by reading the "Handbook of the Current Middle Ages". Leading a group of interested individuals, he pushed this group into forming what would become the Middle Kingdom, during meetings in Ida Noyes Hall on the University of Chicago campus (Later to become the Province of Tree-Girt-Sea). There was also, simultaneously, a group forming around the Michigan State campus in East Lansing (later to become the Barony of Northwoods)[1].

The first event held in the Midrealm was also its first Crown Tournament, held at WilCon, a Science Fiction Convention, held at Wilmot Mountain in Wisconsin, on the July 4th weekend of 1969[2].

The participants of this tournament were:

Cariadoc;
Franz von Blinkend-Lichten;
Haakon Redbeard;
Philippe de Sourraine;
Bradley of Bradley;
Larry Nichols.*[3]

Cariadoc also went on to become the 8th and 14th King of the East[4].
