Shattered Crystal is a Barony in the Midlands Region of the Middle Kingdom. The Barony of Shattered Crystal is the local SCA branch for Madison and St. Clair counties, and the surrounding areas of Southwestern Illinois (including St. Clair, Madison, Macoupin, Jersey, Hillboro, Bond, Clinton, Washington, Marion, Jefferson, Randolph, and Monroe).

History

The Barony was established in 1988 to encompass the greater St Louis Metro East area. The Barony's holdings now extend down to the southern tip of the state (Carbondale and Marion) as the Canton of Black Stone Forge.

The nine lozenges in the group's heraldry represent the nine individuals who were the driving force behind the start of the Barony.

Heraldry History

The name Shire of the Shattered Crystal was registered with the SCA College of Heralds in October of 1982. It was updated to Barony of the Shattered Crystal in May of 2022.
The name Barony of the Shattered Crystal was registered in May of 2022.
The heraldic device blazoned "Azure, a lozenge within a laurel wreath within eight lozenges in mascle argent." was registered in July of 1984.
The award name Order of the Azure Stanchion was registered in May of 2022.
The award name Award of the Beacon of the Shattered Crystal was registered in April of 2023.
The award name Order of the Orb of the Shattered Crystal was registered in April of 2023.
The award name Award of the Shard of the Shattered Crystal was registered in April of 2023.

Events

Annual events held in the Barony of Shattered Crystal are:

- Crystal Chamfron, a predominantly equestrian event that usually occurs in April.

- Feast of the Chase, in October. This event is themed as a visit to the baron and baronesses' fall hunting lodge. Various martial and A&S activities happen during the day, and at night main hall is turned into a gaming den.
