About
Marche of the Marshes is a Canton of the Barony of Red Spears in the North Oaken region of the Middle Kingdom.

History
The Marche of the Marshes is located in Bowling Green, OH, the site of the very first SCA group in the state of Ohio. The first meeting was held on January 7th 1970 by Count Jehan de la Marche. The Marche of the Marshes was originally the Baronial Seat for the Barony of Middle_Marches. However, it's location at a College meant that it's membership waxed and waned and it wasn't until 1993 that the group finally got enough people to get organized enough to achieve full status.
The group though has grown in leaps and bounds in the last years.
In spring of '06 the contingent of the Fens Militia who traveled to WV to attend Blackstone Raids were honored to encounter their founder member Count Jehan de la Marche. Count Jehan was proud to see the strong and vibrant force that was now representing his original home and regalled them with many tales of the early years.
At Pennsic '06 the group granted Count Jehan honorary lifetime membership of the Marche of the Marshes and in return was given custody of the very first Marche banner which is currently being conserved with the intent of showing proudly at each possible event in the future.
At Pennsic '07 the groups fighting force (mostly consisting of newer fighters) was honored to receive a dragons tooth for prowess on the field of battle.
Heraldry History
The name March of the Marshes was registered with the SCA College of Heralds in January of 1973.
The heraldic device blazoned "Argent, a pale and base echancree at the points of juncture gules, overall in chief a laurel wreath vert." was registered in January of 1973.
Events
Currently Marche of the Marshes hosts one of the biggest camping events in the Midrealm, Baron Wars, originally every May and now held in June, at Fort Meigs in Perrysburg. This large event, upwards of 1000 attendess, is one of the few on the calendar to offer a little of everything. All SCA activities are welcomed and supported, from youth activities including youth combat and youth rapier, through coursing, equestrian, thrown weapons, archery, rapier (melee and tournament), shopping, feasting, camping, bardic, classes, competitions, and of course heavy melee.
