History

Baron War began more than ten years ago, involving two barons in northern Ohio over the loss of a camel. However the conflict rages on between the northern barons to this very day.

Baron Wars has a rich tradition of schtick. Events are typically labeled in sequential order how ever Baron Wars had 3 Baron War III's so that they could complete the schtick plot line.

Here is the story as it was presented on the original event flyer:

The story of what brings two baronies to war with one another is always a tragic one.

The whole sordid episode took place on dark and overcast morn, when a young camel jockey of the Marche of the Marshes awoke to find his beloved fuzzy charge and sounding board, Ackbar, missing. Following the not so subtle trail of tracks in the wet ground (wet ground in Red Spears?? never!) which disappeared at the edge of the great muddy Maumee River.

Seeing what this must mean, the Marche rallied around their fuzzy-haired camel peddler and confronted their good cousins to the north, Hrothgar's Fjord. The Fjordians made vile and heinous declarations of innocence and gave a stern lecture about leaving camels unattended. The thing came neigh near a horrible conflict, when it was discovered that it was all a nefarious Pentemerian plot! It would seem that a certain Baron of Roaring Wastes was heard to boast of the Barony's new "misshapen cow." This odd creature was said to be quite tasty when served as paté'.

Hence Good Baron Taylor has cried outrage and hanky-panky of a very naughty order & mustered the full mass of the teeming Barony of Red Spears Land Army. Incensed at the utter weirdness of it all, much of the Northern Oaken Army has mobilized to defend their borders from the Pentemerian hordes.

Will justice prevail? Will anybody ever learn to tie their camel up at night? Will the waters of the Maumee swim with Revenge? Will the fort float away?? We will see...

Location

Baron Wars takes place at Fort Megis. Built in 1813 to defend the Ohio Country against British invasion, Fort Meigs constitutes the largest wooden walled fortification in North America.

Today the fort stands rebuilt on its original location within a 65 acre wooded park. The ten acre fort is enclosed by a stockade wall and contains seven blockhouses, five cannon batteries, and numerous interior eight foot high earthworks.

While the fort is post SCA period it still considered be a excellent fun camping and having tournaments inside the wooden fort.

Baron Wars is also known as "Baron Pours". Baron Wars has a long history of nearly continuous rain thought the weekend event.

You can nearly count on it to be cold and wet, so bring the appropriate gear. In 2009, when Baron Wars was away from its usual site, the day was cold and windy enough that one of the porta-potties blew over. Seriously, be prepared. But it's worth it.
