The members of the Order of the Gold Mace that have not been elevated to the Order of the Chivalry may be styled and announced as Captain of the Red Company. The proper usage would is for this to come after the name. Example: The Honorable Lord John the Smith, Captain of the Red Company. Common casual usage is to use just Captain in front of the name. Example: Captain John the Smith.

The use of Captain in the latter manor is not restricted to members of the Gold Mace. There are a few gentles with nautical persona that are known as Captain followed by their name, such as Captain Llen Crede. Most of these have received letters of marque or other appointments from the Crown or their Baron/Baroness.
