James Underhill is the son of two nobles from Novgorod living during the latter part of the 12th century. He spent his early years in England and Normandy with his mother and father who passed away after an illness.

James is the son of Boiarynia Katalena Ivaniaia zhena Shishova, OP, and stepson of Boiarin Ivan Shishov, KSCA of Two Tygers Keep.
