History

WealdLake noted there were no longer events where the fine arts of brewing (beer and ale production) and vinting (wine production) were celebrated in the SCA Middle Kingdom. (When? Date?) The members determined that the best activities that go with the consumption of said beverages are football and the consumption of 'tailgate' food. As there is a version of medieval football called Soule... why not have two teams that compete. Northwoods could field a team and the canton believed this celebration should be shared with their friends in the neighboring barony of Cynnabar, who could field the opposing team.

(NOTE: WealdLake is approximately halfway between the founding location of Northwoods the City of the Singing Lance [Lansing] and the founding location of the Barony of Cynnabar [Ann Arbor]. Both baronies have large universities located in those cities that have football teams with long standing friendly rivalries. The Cynnabar university coincidentally has a fight song entitled "Hail to the Victors".]

In recent years, the event has been held simultaneously with the Tyger Hunt event.

Purpose

To provide an event where good friends can meet. The activities include the game of Soule, half-time shows, rapier tournaments, archery tournaments, A&S competitions for heraldry, brewing, vinting, tailgate dinner presentation, and of course the tailgate feast!

Hosting Group

Ale to the Victors is hosted annually by WealdLake, a canton of Northwoods.
