Talk:Red Company

From the start, there was a bit of contraversy in the Red Company being a "recommendation order." Many saw it as being a mini-order of the Chivalry, and that members might be walking above their station, as it were. It's worth nothing that the Order of the Chivalry is a "polling order," meaning that the Crown is REQUIRED to ask the opinion of the Order. The Crown is not required to *follow* that opinion, but They must ask for it. The Crown was never required to ask the members of the Red Company for anything.

However, there was briefly a tradition in which the Red Company would be assembed in court, and then asked if they had recommendations for new members of their order. A representative of the order would reply that they did, and hand The King a rolled-up scroll. The King would read it, then have whomever He wished to add to the order called forward into court.

However... what is not commonly known is that -- to the best of my knowledge -- the scroll handed to the King NEVER contained actual candidate names (these recommendations were given to the King earlier in the day, usually via a short discussion). The very first scroll given to the King only said this:

"Your Majesty, Your fly is open."

Every other time this happened in court, the scroll said this, or a variation on the theme.
