Pennsic 31 (2002) - Valharic and Alys

The Pennsic Rapier Champions Tourney is 1/3 of a war point. This is the first year rapier is counted (even as a fraction) as a Pennsic war point. The other 3rds are the unbelted champions and the archery champions tourney.

The tourney was fought in a Heroic Style format for the first time. Pairings were determined before the tourney. The tourney started a 4 pm. Each bout was fought one at a time. We nearly ran out of daylight. Pennsic Great Court was delayed due to this tourney running late.

Pennsic 32 (2003) - Pieter and Nan Astrid

Warder Maximilian der Zauberer is Captain of the MidRealm Pennsic Rapier Champions Team. The tourney is one full war point this year. The MidRealm wins the heroic champions tourney, thereby winning the only Pennsic War point for Pieter and Nan Astrid.

Pennsic 33 (2004) - Felix and Madeleina

Rapier gets 2 melee war points added to Pennsic for the first time. King Felix I names Warder Maximilian der Zauberer as the first Pennsic War Rapier Commander.

The East Kingdom wins the Pennsic Rapier Champions tourney (last-man standing format).

Field Battle War Point

East Kingdom wins the rapier field battle war point. The field battle war point is fought epee only. The field was laid out in the form of 3 bridges. The East Kingdom outnumbered the MidRealm by approximately 5 to 1. The MidRealm was clobbered (so says Lt General Max).

Woods Battle War Point

While there had been rapier woods battles for several years prior to this, 2004 was to see the first War Point for the woods. However, the weather had other ideas: there were outrageous storms on Thursday (when the battle was scheduled), and continued rain through Friday; in the end, this war point was cancelled, and not rescheduled.

Pennsic 34 (2005) - Alaric and Noelle

Baron Adam Comyn is Captain of the Pennsic Rapier Champions team, leading the team to victory in a single-pass heroic format.

Open Field Battle War Point

The field battle fought on less than 50% of battlefield. The MidRealm outnumbered the East approximately 5 to 1. It was fought 3 times. First time the East hid in the corner and the MidRealm clobbered them. 2nd time the East ran all over the field and we clobbered them. The 3rd time, several Midrealm units (including King Alaric's home Barony) and Allies (including Northshield) fought alongside the East, bringing the numbers closer to even (but still nearly 2 to 1). The East advanced up he center, with reserves pushing along their right flank late in the battle, fighting valiantly, but were defeated a third time, nonetheless.

Woods Battle War Point

The MidRealm also won the woods battle war point. The woods battles war point was fought schlaeger only. Since the rapier woods battle was the last war point scheduled, and by that time the Middle Kingdom had already won the war, there was minimal participation from the East Kingdom. The Midrealm chose not to take a head count; the final score was 15-0

The rules of the battle follow: This will be a timed, unlimited resurrection battle lasting 45-55 minutes. The woods boundaries, starting points and resurrection points for each side will be the same as those used in this year's rattan woods battle. All holds will be local and the clock will not stop during holds.

The objective of this battle will be to control five "flagpoles" located at fixed points within the woods. These locations will be known to each side prior to the start of the battle, and flagpoles may not be moved. A flagpole is controlled by the side whose banner is displayed on that pole, and control remains with that side until the pole is captured by an opposing side AND a new banner displayed. Until a new banner is "run up the flagpole" control has not changed. Control of each of these five flagpoles will be checked twice during the course of the battle, at random times unique to each flagpole. These times will be unknown to the combatants. Control will again be checked at the end of the battle, which will be at a randomly selected time ranging from 45 to 55 minutes after the starting cannon. The ending time will not be known to the combatants. Control of a flagpole (either during a random check or at the end of the battle) will result in one victory point being awarded to the side holding the pole. The War Point will be awarded to the side accumulating eight or more victory points.

Death from behind, as described in the Pennsic conventions, will be used. Combatants may use only heavy rapier, and secondaries (including daggers) approved for use against such blades. Natural obstacles (i.e. brush, fallen timber, etc.) may not be rearranged into a defensive position. The movement of obstacles is only permitted in order to lessen potential safety hazards and should be done under the supervision of a marshal. Fighting may not occur within 100 feet of each of the resurrection points; these resurrection zones will be clearly demarcated within the woods. Once a fencer is “killed”, he or she must return to his or her own resurrection point in order to resurrect. Resurrections shall be instantaneous, and fencers may return to the battle once they reach resurrection point.

Pennsic 35 (2006) - Felix and Madeleina

Pennsic Rapier Champions tourney is fought best two of three heroic format, with Blaise von Bremen victoriously captaining the Midrealm team.

Town Battles War Point

The East outnumbered the MidRealm approximately 2 to 1. The MidRealm won the first scenario. The East won the second scenario. The third was a tie.

Scenario 1: Collect the taxes Each building will have 3 bags of gold. Teams score one point for every bag that they collect and return to their starting point by the end of combat. Fencers may fight while carrying a bag, but may not use a bag as a parrying item. This is a non-resurrection battle that will end when one team has been eliminated or all of the gold has been retrieved. Pennsic rules. Heavy rapier only, Death from Behind (DFB) will be used.

Scenario 2: Distribute the Wealth to the Poor Each team will have an equal quantity of bags of gold, marked in their colors, that must be distributed to buildings throughout the field. Teams will get points for bags successfully delivered at the end of time, with more points awarded for bags delivered furthest from a team's starting line. If a bag is left unattended, it may be moved by the opposing team. This is a 20 minute resurrection battle. Pennsic rules. Heavy rapier only, Death from Behind (DFB) will be used.

Scenario 3: The Drunken Courier's Deliveries Each team will begin with a number of items that must be delivered to specific buildings. The team with the most items delivered to the correct buildings wins. Teams may not move items belonging to the opposite team. This is a 20 minute resurrection battle. Pennsic rules. Heavy rapier only, Death from Behind (DFB) will be used.

Woods Battle War Point (See 2005 for rules description)

The East had secured the war before this battle, but with Atlantia AEthelmaerc as allies, they fielded a numerically superior force in the woods, for the first time. Nevertheless, the Midrealm took the point, 9-6.

Pennsic 36 (2007) - Dag and AnneMarie

Warder Cecil Dupont is Captain of the MidRealm Pennsic Rapier Champions team, in a close defeat (14-16).

The Great Wall Battle

The battle was originally rained out, but was scheduled for the following morning. The MidRealm outnumbered the East aproximately 5 to 1 thanks in significant part to the many, many crossover fighters, but also due to low turnout on the Eastern side. Saying we clobbered them would be too kind.

Woods Battle War Point (See description for 2005)

The rapier woods battle was scheduled to be fought immediately after the rattan woods battle. It was hoped to get a large turnout, especially of crossovers. Unfortunately, Mother Nature always wins in battle, and the rapier woods battle was rained out. In fact, many MidRealm crossover combatants were trapped for almost an hour at the far end of the woods because the Cooper’s Lake tractor stopped running and the road was closed due to the ensuing deluge.

The battle was fought the following day, after the Midrealm had sealed the victory for the War. Again, the Eastern numbers were below expectation, but for it's part, the Midrealm had only a few of its crossover fighters. The Midrealm took the warpoint, 14-1.

Pennsic 37 (2008) - Lutr and Tessa

Warder Martyn Baxter is Captain of the MidRealm Pennsic Rapier Champions.

Pennsic 38 (2009) - Eikbrandr and Runa E

  • The war was fought in two parts. First, the traditional East (and allies) vs. Midrealm (and allies). Next the East & Midrealm joined to take on the "Known World Alliance". Each battle was worth one "Event Point", and the side with the most event points for the day gained one War Point. The Populace Archery shoots were also worth a War Point each. See description from TRM East and Middle.
