Format
The Grand Day includes armored and rapier combat and side Arts and Sciences activities.
There is typically a Grand Tournament held, although the format has changed over the years. In prior years, a Pas d'Armes was held wherein the winners of the Baronial monthly tournaments held the field as Tenans, and fought against all other participants (the Venans).
In A.S. 53 (2018, C.E.) the format was similar to the recent crown tournament, as a pool tourney with double elimination once the pools had been reduced to 16 combatants.
Lions vs. Christians Battle
A popular final part of the tournament is the Lions vs. Christians battle. During this battle, a single combatant - typically a Knight - is held tethered at one end of the field. Within the field are scattered various weapons that may be wielded by armored combatants wearing full hand protection. The combatants enter the field with no weapons. There is 360ยบ engagement. The tournament will end when there is only one participant on the field. This is often the Lion.
Prizes
Prizes are regularly given to the winners of the various tournaments.
Gambling
A regular feature of the event are gambling tables where the populace may place bets on individual bouts, thus providing incentive for greater overall enthusiasm in the fighting. Odds for a given bout are usually based upon the combatant's rank. For example for an armored combatant, No Awards, Award of Arms, Sergeant of the Red Company, Captain of the Red Company, Order of the Chivalry, Royal Peer.
