Persona
Born in 1390 on a small estate between Glyndyfrdwy and Sycharth in NE Wales, at the age of 13 Dafydd ap Hywel ap Madoc Vychan left the estate in the care of his father and two older brothers and followed in the train of the great bardic poets to spread the fame of Prince Owain Glyndŵr. After the war, in which his older brother and father both gave their lives, Dai continued as a poet and teacher in the villages and holdings across Wales wherever the Prince's name could be kept alive. Upon the death of his remaining brother in 1420 Dai was called back home to take responsibility for the llys and prevent it from falling into English hands. Since his return, his neighbors have called him Dai Gerdwr (Davy Musician).
Dai travels often around and out of Wales, ostensibly to drum up trade agreements for goods produced on his estate and on the estates of his neighbors, but in reality to sing songs, tell tales, and share his beers. His children run the estate.
He tries to take no joy in seeing the squabbles surrounding the current occupant of the English throne but can't help but get some small satisfaction from Henry's diplomatic and court fumbling. Henry's mother married a Welshman on the second try, so one supposes she can't be all bad.
