Tabard

A Tabard is a simple garment; usually open at the sides with a neck hole and hemmed above the knee. Tabards are used to display heraldry and can be worn over armor. Frequently champions will have tabards identifying them as such on the field.

A typical Tabard pattern is a simple rectangle with a neck hole cut into it. More advanced tabards may have sloped shoulders to sit better and epaulets or other shoulder-pieces or ties at the side. Because a tabard can be made with minimal sewing, they are popular with newcomers to the society as a quick means of covering mundane clothing.
