A martial form allowed in some melee battles, especially popular in bridge battles. Combat Archery involves the use of blunt "arrows" shot with real bows (or crossbows) at live combatants. Combat Archery requires a separate authorization and has specific rules for the equipment used.

The Middle Kingdom has more stringent regulations for safety than some other kingdoms, requiring that both the head of the "arrow", the shaft and the nock end all have a thickness over the minimum gap allowed by heavy weapons armour standards. Some other kingdoms use standard arrow shafts with large blunt heads, these fly truer than the thicker 'golf tube' style arrows used here in the Middle Kingdom, but there is a safety concern for bounce-back or deflected arrows that may hit a combatant from the nock end rather than the head end.
