Coat-of-plates

From MiddleWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Any fabric or leather-based body armor, usually with plates riveted to the inside or outside. The most popular form is based on the famous armor excavated at Wisby in Sweden. The coat of plates has the advantage of increased flexibility (like a Chain hauberk) while maintaining the protective ability of plate against blunt attacks. Also, since the materials and construction are relatively simple when compared to a cuirass or other plate body armor it is one of the more inexpensive choices for historically accurate body armor. This is the most common type of body armor in the Middle Kingdom.
