History
Herald's Pointe was started in the winter of 2009 to provide an opportunity for the populace of the Midrealm to meet with heralds without the distractions of other events. No need to rush between tournament bouts, etc. - just the heralds and you. This is an annual gathering of heralds to provide SCA members with the expertise of the College of Heralds to choose a period name and device that do not conflict with others in the SCA or the historical /current Royal families/ persons/ groups/ organizations (i.e. the British Royal Family, Knights Of the Empire, Margaret Thatcher). Instruction is given for the submission process - documentation needed, forms, timeframe, costs.
In 2010 the Canton of WealdLake added the Scribal Collegium half as a way to both draw more folks and to inspire folks new and old to try the scribal arts!
The event occurred annually for several years and was asked to be shared with the Region. After a few years of that not coming to fruition, Wealdlake took it back and started holding it biannually in rotation with The Grand Tour (another Wealdlake event)
Purpose
Herald's Pointe and Scribal Collegium has grown to provide classroom instruction as well as consultation services. If you are a new herald in the SCA, want to become a herald or interested in heraldry, here is an opportunity to learn about heraldry in the Middle Kingdom. This includes classes in court heraldry, field heraldry, uses of heraldry, as well as the two areas of consulting heraldry - names and devices.
For those interested in the scribal arts, this is a chance to learn about illumination and calligraphy in history as well as how to utilize this knowledge to make awards scrolls for the members of the SCA. Here you can learn how to illuminate or put those pretty pictures/designs on paper, as well as learning the basics of Calligraphy.
Hosting Group
Herald's Pointe and Scribal Collegium is hosted biannually (in rotation with The Grand Tour by WealdLake, a canton of Northwoods.
